Bath & Body Works Free Product

Whew!!  We've been home from Disney for a week and I am finally feeling caught up from being gone.  I wanted to take a sec to post about this possibly awesome deal happening tomorrow at Bath & Body Works.  When I say "possibly awesome" I mean that the deal might not go my way, but even if it doesn't it is still worth checking out.

For me Bath & Body Works is like Kohl's... never pay regular price.  There is always a coupon, and always a sale to pair the coupon with.  It just so happens that tomorrow from 1-4 B&BW is giving away a tote bag with a free product inside with any home fragrance purchase.  I noticed that this weekend thier large jar candles are 2 for $20, and if you go here you can print a coupon for a free Signature Collection item when you spend $10 in store.

With all of that in mind my deal scenario is this:

Buy 2 Filled Candles for $20
Buy 1 Signature Collection Item $12.50
Tote bag with product $0.00

Use Coupon Here to subtract $12.50

Get it ALL for only $20 and tax, the regular price of ONE candle.

**If this is not as awesome as I think, they may not allow the coupon and tote bag offer to be used together, but it could be argued that 2 items are being purchased to satisfy the terms of each offer.  If that happens, I advise to snag the tote bag and save the coupon for later because it is good until April 1.  OR use it right away on a seperate purchase to buy hand soap on sale 5 for $15, and the free Signature Collection item.

Good luck!!

Free Fragrance Mist at Bath & Body Works

Go HERE to print your coupon for a free fragrance mist at Bath & Body Works.  A $10 purchase is required, but to justify it (if you need to) the value of the mist itself is $14.  Personally, I love the mist as it is more like a perfume formula than the splash.

Lego Store in Milwaukee

I'm always happy to hear about a new shopping experience, and the Lego lover in me is really excited about this one.  "Lego" will be opening thier first store in Wisconsin, right here in our area at Mayfair Mall.  It is scheduled to open in May and will be located between Gymboree and Starbucks on the second level.  The store is rumored to offer a Pick-a-Brick wall, fun lego facts, and over two million legos in the store at one time. WOW!  My son has already opened his piggy bank in preparation for a Grand Opening Event.

I've been to Lego in Illinois and I know from experience how fun the pick a brick wall is.  It is set up like the grocery store candy bins with legos set up by color, shape and size.  This display is easy to shop and is the perfect place to find that "one" missing piece from your little one's set at home.  Some Illinois stores also offer Build-a-Figure sections where you can customize your own lego people right down to special hair color and syles.

Homemade Marshmallows??

marshmallow, toasting
I found this recipe at Smitten Kitchen and I am posting to my blog to share with you AND so I don't loose it.  A couple weeks ago I anti'd up and bought a Kitchen Aid Professional 600 to replace the one I had.  Last week, I used it for the first time.  What did I make??  Two pouches of Betty Crocker Oatmeal Cookie Mix.  That's like committing "Professional mixer Abuse" in my eyes, so I find myself wanting to be redeemed after said violation.  I think that this is the perfect recipe to try, especially as a fellow blogger recommended using a Kitchen Aid to make life easier while mixing this concoction.  Stay tuned, I am hoping to post photos of my first attempt soon, successful or not!!
Springy, Fluffy Marshmallows
Adapted from Gourmet, December 1998
These homemade marshmallows are not only easy to make, they set as perfectly as promised: puffed and lightweight, bouncing off one another as I tossed them in the container. Even better, they toasted like a campfire charm speared on the end of a skewer, and s’mooshed between two graham crackers with a square of chocolate.
Makes about 96 1-inch cubed marshmallows
About 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
3 1/2 envelopes (2 tablespoons plus 2 1/2 teaspoons) unflavored gelatin
1 cup cold water, divided
2 cups granulated sugar (cane sugar worked just fine)
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 large egg whites or reconstituted powdered egg whites
1 tablespoon vanilla (alternately: 1/2 of a scraped vanilla bean, 2 teaspoons almond or mint extract or maybe even some food coloring for tinting)
Oil bottom and sides of a 13- by 9- by 2-inch rectangular metal baking pan and dust bottom and sides with some confectioners’ sugar.
In bowl of a standing electric mixer or in a large bowl sprinkle gelatin over 1/2 cup cold cold water, and let stand to soften.
In a 3-quart heavy saucepan cook granulated sugar, corn syrup, second 1/2 cup of cold water, and salt over low heat, stirring with a wooden spoon, until sugar is dissolved. Increase heat to moderate and boil mixture, without stirring, until a candy or digital thermometer registers 240°F, about 12 minutes. Remove pan from heat and pour sugar mixture over gelatin mixture, stirring until gelatin is dissolved.
With standing or a hand-held electric mixer beat mixture on high speed until white, thick, and nearly tripled in volume, about six minutes if using standing mixer or about 10 minutes if using hand-held mixer. (Some reviewers felt this took even longer with a hand mixer, but still eventually whipped up nicely.)
In separate medium bowl with cleaned beaters beat egg whites (or reconstituted powdered whites) until they just hold stiff peaks. Beat whites and vanilla (or your choice of flavoring) into sugar mixture until just combined. Pour mixture into baking pan and don’t fret if you don’t get it all out (learning from my mess of a first round). Sift 1/4 cup confectioners sugar evenly over top. Chill marshmallow, uncovered, until firm, at least three hours, and up to one day.
Run a thin knife around edges of pan and invert pan onto a large cutting board. Lifting up one corner of inverted pan, with fingers loosen marshmallow and ease onto cutting board. With a large knife trim edges of marshmallow and cut marshmallow into roughly one-inch cubes. (An oiled pizza cutter works well here too.) Sift remaining confectioners’ sugar back into your now-empty baking pan, and roll the marshmallows through it, on all six sides, before shaking off the excess and packing them away.
Do ahead: Marshmallows keep in an airtight container at cool room temperature 1 week

Moneysaver: Chai Tea at Home

While nothing can replace the conversation and pampering feeling of treating yourself to a drink at a coffee shop, your wallet can feel a pinch in a hurry when you indulge too much (not to mention your waist in your jeans from all of the Vitamin D milk and fancy syrups.)  Below you will find a recipe for an easy spiced tea that makes you the creator, leaving the kind of milk (I substitute skim) and amount of spice in your hands!

In large saucepan, combine tea, orange peel and spices. Add sweetened condensed milk; mix well. Over medium heat, slowly stir in water. Heat thoroughly but do not boil. Refrigerate any leftovers.

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened instant tea

  • 1 tsp. finely grated orange peel

  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves

  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg

  • 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk

  • 6 1/3 cups water
  • Get MS Office on Your iPad!

One of the biggest things that kept me away from an iPad was the inability to work with Microsoft Office documents on it.  Today I was surfing the net and found that currently at the App Store you can install an app called cloudon that will enable document creation and editing through Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, etc. completely FREE!
From you iPad simply click on the App Store button and search for cloudon, and tap to install.  you will be prompted to create an account, and a "Dropbox" account.  After these are setup, a quick tutorial is provided to catch up on the basics of using this time saving app!
